Comedy Own Goal! Esteban Cambiasso (Leicester) vs West Brom
Table of Contents
A bizarre own goal from Esteban Cambiasso gave West Bromwich Albion a 1-0 win at the King Power Stadium as Leicester City extended their winless run in the Premier League to five matches.
A disappointing performance last weekend prompted Nigel Pearson to make four changes to the Leicester line-up as leading scorer Leonardo Ulloa, without a goal or a shot in his last four matches, was dropped to the bench.
But the toothless hosts still struggled to make the most of their chances against the Baggies, with Jamie Vardy in particular guilty of spurning a couple of good opportunities.
And ultimately they were undone when Cambiasso put through his own net in strange fashion two minutes into the second period.
Escaping down the left on another of his searing runs, Saido Berahino squeezed a low cross that Wes Morgan thought he had cleared to safety with a diving header.
Unfortunately, the ball struck Cambiasso on the knee and rebounded into the net, with Kasper Schmeichel totally stranded.
"To end up losing the game to an own goal, and a pretty unfortunate one at that, really does make it a little bit more difficult to deal with," Pearson told Foxes Player after the match.
