Bolton Wanderers manager Neil Lennon on Wednesday made a surprise visit to local youngster Thomas Fielding, who recently applied for his position.
The 9-year-old fan was so unhappy with how Bolton were performing on the pitch that he took it upon himself to apply for the then-vacant position last month.
In the letter, Thomas voiced his concerns over the fitness of the Bolton players and contested that they were "unfit and overweight".
Following the appointment of Lennon, Thomas then received a letter from the club thanking him for his interest in the role but that his application had been unsuccessful.
And Lennon was so impressed with the boy's enthusiasm for the club that he organised a meeting with him and presented him with a signed jersey.
"It's a great little story," Lennon told the club's website. "His letter was very similar to the one I sent in - it's just his had better handwriting!"
