Mario Mandžukić slams 'disrespectful' Pep Guardiola

Months after leaving Bayern Munich, Mario Mandžukić has lifted the lid on his final year with the Bavarians, with a few less than friendly words on Pep Guardiola.

The Croatian striker is enjoying his football again at Atlético Madrid after his somewhat acrimonious departure from the Allianz Arena in the summer.

He enjoyed two very successful years at Bayern, winning the Treble under Jupp Heynckes, but found himself down the pecking order after Guardiola arrived last season.

"When he joined the club I realised that nothing would be the same again and that my time at Bayern was drawing to an end," Mandžukić told Croatian newspaper Sportske Novosti.

"He dropped me on the eve of the German Cup final and then later didn't play me so that I wouldn't finish as the club's top scorer.

"He disappointed me; he didn't treat me with respect. Things were twice as good for me under Jupp Heynckes.

"I didn't deserve to be treated that way after giving everything for Bayern Munich for two seasons.

"I tried to adapt, but it takes two to tango. I realised that there was no future for me there, so I resigned myself to leaving the club and was able to take my time picking my next destination.

"It would have made more sense to me if he'd told me I didn't fit in with his philosophy".

Asked whether he would patch things up with the Spaniard, Mandžukić said: "Would I sit down for a cup of coffee with him? That's not going to happen.

"There's no reason why I have to get on with everyone I come across in my career and if I feel negative energy from someone, I try to avoid them."
