Dani Alves responds to racist gesture by eating banana thrown by Villarreal fans

Barcelona defender Daniel Alves produced undoubtedly one of the moments of the season with a light-hearted riposte to a racist taunt during his team's 3-2 win at Villareal.
In the late stages of Sunday's game at the El Madrigal, a racist home fan threw a banana which landed near the feet of Alves as he was getting set to take a corner kick.
Unfazed, the Brazil international casually picked up the banana, peeled it and took a big bite before tossing away the peel and completing the kick.
After the game, Alves admitted such racist incidents are a frustration but his preference is to remain with good humour.
He told reporters: "I don't know who it was, but thanks to whoever threw the banana because the potassium gave me the energy for the two crosses which led to a goal."
Alves added: "We have suffered this in Spain for some time.
"You have to take it with a dose of humour. We aren't going to change things easily.
"If you don't give it importance, they don't achieve their objective."
Alves has previously been subjected to racist taunts in Spain. The 30-year-old complained of racial abuse last year after being taunted by monkey chants during a Copa del Rey semi-final at Real Madrid.
