Totti's current deal was due to expire at the end of this season but after lengthy discussions with the capital club, the 36-year-old finally put pen to paper on the deal, which is reportedly worth €3.2 million per season.

The deal also reportedly includes a clause that will give Totti a managerial position with his hometown club once he stops playing.

"I want to really thank the President for giving me the opportunity to keep wearing the shirt that I have always supported and always loved," Er Pupone said at a press conference.

"Everyone wanted it to happen, me and the club.

"I have another two years on my contract, two more years of responsibility, we have a lot of work to do and I hope we do well for this American Roma."

Totti is one of the last remaining flag bearers in an Italian game which saw Juventus show Alessandro Del Piero the door last summer after 19 years with the outfit.

The former Italy internaional added: "Del Piero decided to go and play in Australia. He wasn't treated by Juventus as Roma have acted with me and that is disappointing for him. I, on the other hand, am delighted."

With 228 goals in Serie A, Totti is second on the all-time list behind Silvio Piola, who leads with 274.

"Reaching the goal tally of Piola is almost impossible," Totti commented. "I'm not thinking about it to be honest. The first objective is to do well with Roma."
