According to the Daily Mail, the incident took place when Gerrard was practicing free-kicks with teammate Philippe Coutinho ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash at Swansea City.

A male fan began shouting abusive comments from outside of the ground's walls, but Gerrard initially ignored the unnamed man.

The England skipper continued to strike kicks at goalkeeper Simon Mignolet as part of an exercise until the insults became much more personal and threatening.

Gerrard started walking towards the man, who shouted at him: "I know where you live, you p***k! I'll burn your f***ing house down!"

The 33-year-old had to be held back by Reds' assistant manager Colin Pascoe, but the threats continued until the club's kit manager Lee Radcliffe ran out to confront the abuser.

As Radcliffe got closer, the man rode away on a bicycle while shouting: "I'll kill you and your f****** kids!"
