During Monday night's finale of The Bachelorette, host Chris Harrison announced that Galavís would become the next star of the companion series The Bachelor, which will be aired in January next year.

The show picked Galavís after he crashed and burned on the latest season of The Bachelorette.

"It was hard to make the decision," Galavís told Harrison of joining the show.

"I'm going to find hopefully the person who is going to join me and my daughter. That's what I'm looking for."

The 32-year-old spent three years playing in the Primera División Venezolana with Caracas FC, Deportivo Italia, and Monagas, before eventually joined the now defunct Miami FC in the United Soccer League on 2008.

Galavís decided to quit the game in 2009 after the birth of his daughter Camila.

"(Camila) is my Valentine forever," Galavís added in a video introduction.

"I'm confident if I become The Bachelor, I will definitely find my future wife and stepmom for Camila."

In 2004, former New York Giants quarterback Jesse Palmer appeared on The Bachelor to become the first professional athlete to go on the reality show.
