Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge concluded the agreement with Fiorentina president Andrea Della Valle on Monday, and the paperwork will be signed in the next few days.

According to reports in German media, Fiorentina will pay €16 million over a period of four years, plus €4 million more in add-ons.

"It was Mario Gómez's wish to leave Bayern and move to Fiorentina, and we have now fulfilled that wish," Rummenigge told Bayern's official website.

"I would like to thank him for his performances for Bayern and, on behalf of Bayern, wish him lots of happiness and success in Fiorentina."

Gómez scored 112 goals in over four seasons with Bayern, but played second fiddle to Mario Mandžukić for large parts of last term.

In a farewell interview with the Bayern wesbite, the 27-year-old expressed the bittersweet nature of his departure.

He said: "This is a fundamental step for my career. In this moment, I have mixed emotions.

"It's a difficult decision to leave the best club in the world. Bayern Munich made my dream come true - winning the Champions League. But I love football and just want to play more often."

The former VfB Stuttgart player was linked with a move to Napoli, Atlético Madrid, and Arsenal, but ended up opting for Fiorentina.

Gómez added: "When it became clear that I couldn't stay at Bayern I thought about going to play in Spain or Italy. Fiorentina came forward, they were looking for a striker, and everything happened very quickly."
