United midfielder Shinji Kagawa was taking on his former employers, where banners were displayed in his name and fans got excited every time he was on the ball.

The hosts took the lead on 34 minutes when Kenyu Sugimoto rolled home a left-footer past Anders Lindegaard after intercepting a pass by Chris Smalling.

Kagawa bungled a penalty in the 53rd minute, but the 24-year-old Japanese quickly restored some pride by pulling one back for United two minutes later.

Just as United looked as they may assert themselves properly for the first time, Cerezo went ahead again on 63 minutes.

Minamino received possession on the edge of the area and sent a piledriver that arrowed into the top corner, giving Lindegaard no chance at all.

But Wilfried Zaha scored his first goal for United at the death to save them from humilation.
