The Italian, who led PSG to the French title last season, takes over from José Mourinho at the Bernabéu following the Portuguese's return to Chelsea.

"Real Madrid will present Carlo Ancelotti as the new coach of the first team for the next three seasons on Wednesday June 26," a statement on the club's website read.

Ancelotti was widely reported as the front-runner to replace Mourinho, but PSG initially refused to let go of the 54-year-old.

Earlier, Madrid president Florentino Pérez said in an interview to 20 Minutos: "At present, Ancelotti isn't signed.

"It depends when PSG arrive at an agreement with Ancelotti and announce their new coach (Laurent) Blanc. We have to be patient and respect the rules. My coach is Ancelotti."

And the French champions have now allowed Ancelotti to move on after appointing Blanc as their new coach.

A club statement read: "Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce the appointment of Laurent Blanc as coach for the next two years.

"He will take charge of the squad on 1 July 2013 for the start of preseason training."
