Inter Milan midfielder Esteban Cambiasso received a straight red card during their 2-1 home defeat to Juventus for a leg-breaker challenge on Sebastian Giovinco.
Late in Saturday's game with Inter chasing a goal, the Argentine lunged at Giovinco as Juventus was trying to play out the clock.
Cambiasso lunged in so high and reckless on the Juventus substitute that he could easily have broken little Giovinco's leg.
It was an awful challenge for his first red card in 277 games for the Nerazzurri.
The 32-year-old later went into the Juventus dressing room to apologize to Giovinco.
Cambiasso told Inter Channel: "My history speaks for me and Juve also understood straight away that it was an accident.
"I went into the locker room to see how Giovinco was doing. He is a colleague and I didn't want to cause him any problems.
"He didn't seem too bad, though unfortunately I did arrive late to the tackle. I think what I have done in my career makes everyone realize I didn't want to break anyone's ankle."
