Table of Contents
A late solo goal from Brazilian striker Aílton guided Terek Grozny to a 2-0 away victory over Zenit St Petersburg on Friday.
The match saw Zenit's new signings Hulk and Axel Witsel, bought for a reported total of €100 million, make their debuts, but they had little impact on the match.
And it was another Brazilian forward Aílton, who joined the Chechen side from APOEL Nicosia a week ago, who decided the game with five minutes remaining at Petrovsky Stadium.
The 28-year-old picked up the ball on the left flank and cut inside past Igor Denisov, went on to beat Bruno Alves and Nicolas Lombaerts before firing a low shot past Vyacheslav Malafeev.
Igor Lebedenko then added a second four minutes into injury time to send the Chechen side top of the Russian Premier League.
