Serie A: Juventus 2-0 Parma
Table of Contents
Juventus got their Scudetto defense off to a winning start with a controversial 2-0 victory over Parma at the Juventus Arena.
The hosts had a poor first half, capped off by Arturo Vidal missing a penalty in the 34th minute after Parma goalkeeper Antonio Mirante brought down Stephan Lichtsteiner.
But Lichtsteiner atoned for his Chilean teammate by turning in from Kwadwo Asamoah's cross on 55 minutes to put Juventus into a deserved lead.
Andrea Pirlo doubled the lead in bizarre fashion four minutes later as his low free-kick originally appeared to have been stopped by Mirante right on the line before it was allowed on the advice of the fifth official.
