Admir Mehmedi provided an early contender for miss of the tournament in Switzerland's opening match at the 2012 Olympics against Gabon on Thursday.
Mehmedi did put Switzerland ahead five minutes into the Group B game by converting a penalty he was forced to retake.
However, in the twentieth minute of the first day of men's Olympic football, the 21-year-old failed to double the lead by somehow managing to miss an open goal from less than about three yards out.
Instead of netting the sitter in the middle of the goal after an inch-perfect from Steven Zuber, Mehmedi scuffed the ball so badly that the ball barely moved anywhere.
In the end the player came closer to crossing the line than the ball did.
Switzerland went on to concede the equalizer and suffer a draw to Gabon, putting every team in Group B on a point.
