Goal of the day: Elano (Santos) vs Bolívar
Table of Contents
A trademark stunner from ex-Brazil midfielder Elano inspired Santos to an 8-0 hammering of Bolivian side Bolívar in Vila Belmiro on Thursday night.
The visiting side went into the game in positive fashion, pressing their opponents while knowing that the key was to avoid an early goal and make it to half time with their advantage intact.
Unfortunately for the Bolivians, that objective lasted for all of five minutes before Santos powered into the lead.
Neymar nodded down well to Elano 30 yards from the goal, and Elano did not hesitate as he fired a curling right-footed shot past Marcos Argüello.
The strike was a hammer blow for the away team, and an invitation to open the floodgates as resistance crumbled.
Neymar then netted a first-half brace with Ganso and Alan Kardec also on target before the interval.
Elano and Ganso added to their personal tallies after the break, with Borges sealing the rout.
