Spanish giants Real Madrid have announced plans to build a €1 billion resort island featuring a huge theme park in the Middle East.
The "Real Madrid Resort Island" is a man-made set of peninsulas which will be shaped to mimik the Madrid crest with some noticeable add-ons.
It will include a five-star hotel, beachside bungalows and an amusement park with a rollercoaster and hologram show recreating Madrid's goals.
Sports facilities will include training pitches and swimming pools plus a marina for yachting, as well as the 10,000-seat football stadium open on one side to a view of the sea.
"Real Madrid Resort Island will be a major tourist and sporting centre of great dimensions and the highest level," club president Florentino Pérez told a news conference.
"This extraordinary complex will attract millions of people looking for quality leisure services.
"This is a decisive and strategic step which contributes to strengthening our institution in the Middle East and Asia. Real Madrid will be present permanently in a key region of the world."
The resort is due to be completed by January 2015 and will further strengthen the club's position on the continent in the lead-up to the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.
The club hope to attract over 1 million people per year to the resort (note, Disney Land attracts around 15 million people a year).
Los Blancos are not the first major sporting brand to embark on such a venture and are seemingly following in the footsteps of Ferrari, who built the world's largest indoor theme park in Abu Dhabi, which opened in 2010.
