Table of Contents
Robin van Persie's breath-taking volley deep into eight minutes of injury time secured a 2-1 success for Arsenal against Liverpool at Anfield.
The game kicked into life when Liverpool were awarded a penalty when Luis Suárez was felled by Wojciech Szczęsny, who then produced a double save from Dirk Kuyt's penalty.
Laurent Koscielny's wild slice into his own net gave Liverpool a well-deserved lead before van Persie got ahead of Jamie Carragher to bullet a header in for the equaliser.
And, with the game deep into stoppage-time following a worrying injury for Mikel Arteta after he collided with Jordan Henderson, van Persie snatched victory for the Gunners.
Alex Song looped a perfect pass into path of his captain and the in-form Dutchman made no mistake with a brilliant first-time volley.
After the goal, van Persie ran to Song and kissed the right boot that sent over the perfect pass.
Van Persie said: "Alex is a fine player. He can see the pass and he can play the pass — and this was an unbelievable pass."
Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger added: "When you see the ball landing at the feet of van Persie, you know he can deliver a special goal. He did that today.
"He is playing under big pressure in every game, because he knows he has to score. He is an exceptional talent. He is up there with the best players in the world."
