Table of Contents
Newcastle United claimed a first home win over Manchester United for more than a decade following a comprehensive 3-0 success at St James' Park.
The hosts took the lead on 33 minutes as Tim Krul's long free-kick was nodded on by Shola Ameobi to Demba Ba, who smashed a right-foot volley high past the stranded Anders Lindegaard.
United struggled to create obvious chances and found the situation worse two minutes after half time when Yohan Cabaye curled a free-kick in off the underside of the crossbar with Lindegaard once again helpless.
The win was wrapped up in stoppage time when Phil Jones headed Krul's deep free-kick into his own net.
