Brazilian right back Maicon scored one of the goals of 2012 in Italy so far as Inter Milan beat Genoa 2-1 in the Coppa Italia on Thursday night.
Buoyed by the Milan derby win on Sunday, Inter were quickly into their stride against their Serie A counterparts when Maicon fired in a majestic opener after nine minutes.
Receiving the ball 30 yards from goal on the right hand side, he unleashed an unstoppable shot with the outside of his boot that flew past Genoa goalkeeper Cristiano Lupatelli into the top corner.
Andrea Poli doubled the lead four minutes into the second half with his first goal for the Nerazzurri before Valter Birsa netted a consolation strike for Genoa in injury time.
