Goal of the day: Theo Walcott (Arsenal) vs Chelsea
Table of Contents
Theo Walcott scored a brilliant individual goal as Arsenal and Chelsea served up a lunchtime feast that will be elevated to the pantheon of Premier League classics.
The Gunners twice went a goal down but roared back after half-time to seal a pulsating 5-3 London derby victory at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Chelsea had a 2-1 lead at half-time but Arsenal burst out of the blocks after the interval and were level on 49 minutes when Brazilian full-back André Santos completed the fine work of Alex Song.
A moment of individual brilliance from Walcott six minutes later then had the visitors in front for the first time.
Ashley Cole fouled Walcott near the touchline and chased his England colleague from the quick free-kick.
Walcott went down - more of a slip than any contact - and so concerned was Cole with proving his innocence that he let his opponent scurry away.
With the rest of the Chelsea defense watching, Walcott got through and lashed the ball past Petr Čech at his near post.
But although Chelsea then came back to equalise with an 80th-minute goal from Juan Mata, they went on to concede five at home for the first time in a league match since 1989.
