Arsenal captain Robin van Persie hit both goals as the Gunners earned a 2-1 victory over Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium.
Van Persie opened the scoring in just the 29th second as he took one touch from Gervinho's pass before drilling low past Simon Mignolet from 18 yards.
Swedish winger Sebastian Larsson equalised for the visitors in the 31st minute with a delightful 25-yard free-kick that over the wall and past a sprawling Wojciech Szczęsny.
But van Persie hit the winner seven minutes from time when he curled a brilliant set-piece into the top corner leaving Mignolet with no chance.
