European Super Cup: Barcelona 2-0 Porto
Table of Contents
Cesc Fàbregas netted for the first time since returning to Barcelona as the European champions beat nine-man FC Porto 2-0 to claim the European Super Cup.
Barcelona took the lead six minutes before half-time when Lionel Messi made the most of a sloppy back pass from Fredy Guarín as he rounded Helton to slot home in his customary ice cool fashion.
Porto's hopes were all but extinguished when Rolando was given his marching orders for hauling down Messi and earning a second bookable offense five minutes from time.
The Catalans took advantage as Messi turned provider for Fàbregas, an 80th-minute substitute, who latched on to the Argentine's clever chip and thumped the ball home.
Porto finished the game with nine men after Guarín was shown a straight red for a nasty lunge on Javier Mascherano four minutes later.
