The 34-year-old completed his move to the Andalucian side on a one-year contract on a free transfer after seeing out his contract with Bundesliga club Hamburg.

Málaga have revealed no further details of the deal but Spanish media claims the former Manchester United hot shot has signed a one-year contract with the option of longer depending on matches played and number of goals scored.

Van Nistelrooy's last spell in La Liga was a three-and-a-half year stint at Real Madrid that ended in January 2010.

At the Bernabéu, he scored 46 goals in the league, winning the award for the top scorer in 2007.

"This is a new project but with people such as (coach Manuel) Pellegrini, I am convinced that this is the start of something big," said van Nistelrooy during his presentation that was attended by 12,000 Málaga fans.

"I have come here and promise to work everyday and aim to win matches and develop.

"This is the last step in my career. I want to play here a lot and retire from football with pride."
