Amauri's wage demand stumbling block for Palermo
Table of Contents
Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has closed the door on Amauri returning to the club, citing the striker's high wages as a stumbling block.
The Brazil-born Italy international's eye-catching spell at the Sicilian club between 2006 and 2008 earned him a big-money move to Juventus, but he failed to live up to expectations after a bright start for the Bianconeri.
Reports had suggested the Rosanero were looking to bring the 31-year-old back to the Stadio Renzo Barbera, but president Zamparini has ruled out that possibility.
He told Radio Radio: "Amauri is one of the strongest strikers in Italy right now, but he can't return here.
"His salary is just too high for us. If he would accept €1 million a season then I'd bring him back straight away.
"But he earns more than €4 million right now and Palermo cannot afford players at those prices."
