Ronaldo departed for Real Madrid in the summer of 2009 for a record breaking fee, and they were many who suggested that United would struggle to win without him.

Losing a player of Ronaldo's quality would harm any team, but United manager Sir Alex Ferguson worked on fashioning his team into a superb unit and it paid off as a record 19th Premier League title was secured with a 1-1 draw at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

And Evra believes this success is down to team unity and the collective, rather than the brilliance of individuals.

The French defender told reporters: "When Cristiano Ronaldo was here he did a great job but the team was playing for him and maybe people forget that.

"But since Carlito (Tévez) and Ronny have gone United look more like a team.

"I don't say that we're better without Ronny but, sure, we look more like a team. That's an achievement as well.

"If you were asked to pick one player this season, I don't think anyone stands out. That's why the credit for winning the title this season goes to the Man United spirit."
