AS Roma have announced they have terminated the contract of troubled Brazilian striker Adriano by mutual consent after a series of problems.
Adriano's contract was due to run until June 2013 but Roma said they had reached agreement with him to end it early.
The 29-year-old, who has battled a number of personal problems, is expected to return to his native Brazil.
"I gave up a lot of money to leave Roma, but I prefer to be happy," Adriano told Sky Sport Italia.
"In any case, I leave Italy with my head held high. I think principally the injuries and bad luck were why things didn't go well at Roma.
"As soon as I was starting to get back in shape, something always happened that would stop me again.
"I am returning to Brazil because I miss my children too much. Every time I speak to them on the phone, I feel like crying. I cannot do without them and my family."
