Arsenal crashed out of the Champions League after suffering a 3-1 defeat away at Barcelona to exit the competition 4-3 on aggregate.
Barcelona opened the scoring in first-half stoppage-time as Cesc Fà bregas attempted a back-heel to Jack Wilshere on the edge the Arsenal penalty area, only to give the ball away to Andrés Iniesta, who in turn fed Lionel Messi who expertly lifted the ball over Manuel Almunia before volleying home.
Arsenal were handed a lifeline early in the second half when Sergio Busquets put through his own net, but the game swung in favour of the hosts once Robin van Persie was shown a red card shortly after.
The Catalans made their numerical advantage count with Xavi making it 2-1 in the 69th minute before Messi grabbed his second of the contest from the penalty spot two minutes later.
