Fernando Torres: I had to leave Liverpool

New Chelsea signing Fernando Torres yesterday explained in detail why it was time for him to move onwards and upwards.
Torres has been criticised for leaving under-achieving Liverpool after previously stating his love for the club, but he has let it be known that he was not ready to bide his time.
And that is why he is at Chelsea.
"Things had changed a lot in the last year," Torres told a press conference as he was officially unveiled as a Chelsea player on Friday afternoon.
"With John Henry, the club have started to move in the right direction. I think they have great ambition and they are doing the right things to get back, but it will take time. I didn't have that time.
"As soon as I knew that Liverpool and Chelsea were talking about that, I told them that the decision was made.
"When you have the opportunity of playing for a team in the Champions League, a team who have a chance to win it, and are the right age to do that and compete with the best, you have to go.
"Yes, Liverpool wanted me to stay. But I think they understand. Like I understood when Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano left. They wanted a new life."
