Secco was in charge of Juve's recruitment strategy since 2006 but was released this summer after a much-maligned period in charge of the club's recruitment strategy.

When asked about the transfers that nearly made it, Secco told Il Corriere dello Sport: "I would say we were very close to Cassano.

"But there was more than one objection inside the club at the decisive moment referring to doubts on Cassano's change in character."

And Secco believes the Turin giants would be heading in the right direction if they signed the ex-AS Roma and Real Madrid striker.

He added: "Juventus would do well to sign a player like Cassano. I don't know if they will do it, but he is a top player worthy of Juve, Inter Milan or AC Milan.

"Cassano is another player and another man not just today but for two years. This is fortunate for him and for Italian football."
