Rafael Márquez signs with New York Red Bulls

Mexico captain Rafael Márquez has joined former Barcelona team-mate Thierry Henry at Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls.
Over the weekend, Márquez and Barcelona reached an agreement to terminate his contract, freeing up the 31-year-old to join the New York outfit on a free transfer.
"I'm excited to be joining the Red Bulls," Márquez said in a statement.
"Despite having the opportunity to fulfil my contract with Barcelona, coming to New York and playing in Major League Soccer was a chance that I could not refuse.
"I'm completely committed to doing my very best to help the Red Bulls in the playoff push this year and compete for championships in the years to come."

The versatile player joins Henry and Colombian striker Juan Pablo Ángel to give the Red Bulls three high-priced designated players, whose wages are mostly outside of the salary cap.
