Genoa president Enrico Preziosi has confirmed that they have made an offer to sign Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni.
The 33-year-old Italy international wants to leave the Bundesliga champions as he no longer figures in Louis van Gaal's plans.
Toni, who is under contract with Bayern until June 2011, played the last six months on loan at AS Roma, scoring five goals in 15 Serie A appearances.
"We have a keen interest in Toni. He is a player that has the characteristics of our forwards and we really like him," said Preziosi to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"We have made an offer but the problem is that we need to look at the numbers. It's a problem of salaries that are stratospheric.
"There are things that we cannot afford. We will see what he decides.
"But I insist that we cannot go crazy, we will go up to a certain amount."
