Sampdoria scored twice in the first half to beat Fiorentina 2-0 thanks to goals from ex-Viola players Franco Semioli and Giampaolo Pazzini.
Semioli put the Blucerchiati ahead in the 16th minute when sending a looping header over Fiorentina keeper Sébastien Frey after Nicola Pozzi's header hit the bar.
Sampdoria wrapped up the points five minutes before the break when Reto Ziegler's free-kick was met full-on by Pazzini, whose header skimmed the underside of the crossbar on its way in.
