Birmingham fail to sign Joe Hart on permanent basis

Manchester City have told Birmingham City they have no intention of cashing in on Joe Hart because the goalkeeper remains an integral part of their plans for the future.
Birmingham boss Alex McLeish asked City this week if they would be prepared to sell the former Shrewsbury goalkeeper, who lost his place at Eastlands when Shay Given was signed from Newcastle United last January.
Hart, who is on loan at St Andrew's until the end of the season, has been superb in helping promoted Brum go 11 games unbeaten in the top-flight and boosted his prospects of going to the World Cup in the summer.
However, City told McLeish the best Birmingham could hope for is agreeing another season-long loan for the 2010/11 campaign.
McLeish said: "City will take Joe Hart back at the end of the season.
"There is no chance of us signing him in January. We asked the question and they said that won't happen.
"We never had an option from City to buy him. They said he was going out for experience to improve and he has improved.
"But it doesn’t not preclude him from coming back and maybe we could negotiate another year out for him.
"One good thing to come from this is that at least Joe can play for us with the comfort of knowing that City want him."
