Carlo Ancelotti: JT is my Maldini

Carlo Ancelotti has compared John Terry to AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini and backed the Chelsea captain to play on into his late thirties.

The Blues manager coached Maldini during his eight season spell at the helm at the San Siro, and believes the two defensive idols are kindred spirits.

Both rose through the youth ranks to captain their clubs, becoming heroes with fans in the process.

They also boast glittering CVs featuring a stack of league titles and domestic cups – although Terry is yet to match Maldini’s achievement of five Champions League crowns.

"The careers of Maldini and that of John Terry are very close in comparison," Ancelotti told a press conference.

"Like Maldini at AC Milan, Terry was born in this club.

"Like Maldini, he went through the academy at this club. And he can play until he is 40.

"He has no physical problems, a lot of passion, and this is the most important thing to continue to that age.

"I don’t see a big difference between them as players or people."
