Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has revealed that he was close to bringing the curtain down on his playing career due to a back injury.
The 24-year-old underwent an operation on a back problem during pre-season and, after playing in a reserve game against Manchester City last week, he was included on the bench for Sunday's Premier League defeat to Chelsea.
A number of injury problems have afflicted Agger since his move from Brøndby in January 2006 and the Dane has admitted that he considered quitting during his most recent injury.
He told Jyllandsposten: "My back was hurting so badly that I considered stopping playing.
"I asked myself if it was worth continuing playing. When you can't even lift your own child out of bed, then something is terribly wrong."
