Xabi Alonso was unveiled as a Real Madrid player on Wednesday night after completing his £30 million from Liverpool.
The 27-year-old has put pen to paper on a five-year deal after passing a medical in the Spanish capital.
Alonso told a press conference: "It's a very important day for me, a huge step in my career. I leave a great club like Liverpool to come to another great club, Real Madrid.
"I'm very happy to be part of this club and I was very excited for this day to arrive.
"It's the best opportunity for me to develop as a footballer."
The Spain international is Real's eighth summer signing, taking the Spanish giants' spending to more than £220 million in just two months.
Los Blancos have also brought in Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaká, Raúl Albiol, Esteban Granero, Álvaro Arbeloa, Álvaro Negredo and Karim Benzema.
