Germany beat a spirited Azerbaijan 2-0 in Baku to take a four-point lead in Group 4.
The visitors took the lead after just 12 minutes when Bastian Schweinsteiger unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area which went in just below the crossbar.
Miroslav Klose doubled the lead in the 54th by heading home a rebound, after Mario Gómez struck the crossbar with a left-foot shot.
