VfL Wolfsburg announced on Saturday that highly-rated striker Edin Džeko has extended his contract with the Bundesliga champions by two years until 2013.
The 23-year-old, who was named Germany's player of the year after hitting 36 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions last season, has been the subject of intense transfer scrutiny this summer, with AC Milan having an offer knocked back by the Volkswagen-sponsored club.
"I'm delighted that we have been able to agree terms before the start of the Bundesliga season," Džeko told www.vflwolfsburg.de. "Now I can concentrate fully on Wolfsburg.
"I'm looking forward to playing in the Bundesliga and in the Champions League. We have big plans with VfL."
Die Wölfe coach Armin Veh added: "The early contract extension with Edin Džeko is a further positive signal for the future. Edin is a very important element of our team."
