Aliaksandr Hleb has returned to his former club VfB Stuttgart on a season-long loan from Barcelona.
The contractual details of the deal with the Belarus midfielder and Barça were finalised on Thursday morning.
Hleb had been expected to join Inter Milan on a year-long loan as part of the exchange deal which saw Zlatan Ibrahimović and Samuel Eto’o swap clubs earlier this week.
However, the 28-year-old has turned down the chance to play for the Italian champions due to the limited prospects of regular football under José Mourinho, and instead decided to return to the club he played for four years ago before joining Arsenal.
Hleb told www.vfb.de: "I made the decision to move to VfB because the team possesses a great deal of potential and I am convinced that together we can achieve a lot."
Stuttgart director of sport Horst Heldt added: "In signing Aliaksandr Hleb, we have secured the services of a world class player, who will improve the quality of our team further still."
Meanwhile, El Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona will pay Inter an additional €3 million for Ibrahimović after Hleb was excluded from the deal.
