AC Milan announced on Tuesday that they have signed United States defender Oguchi Onyewu from Belgian side Standard Liège on a three-year deal.
Onyewu arrives on a Bosman transfer as his contract at Liège had expired.
The 6ft 4in stopper holds a Belgian passport and will therefore not count as one of the two non-EU players Italian sides are allowed to sign each season.
The 27-year-old Onyewu came to Milan's attention at the Confederations Cup where the USA reached the Final only to be beaten by Brazil.
"AC Milan would like to inform that they have signed Oguchi Onyewu on a permanent basis from Standard Liège," read a statement on Milan's official website.
"The USA international has signed until June 30, 2012."
