Italy international midfielder Massimo Ambrosini has been elected the next AC Milan captain by Rossoneri coach Leonardo.
The role was left vacant following the retirement of Paolo Maldini and Leonardo has decided to pass the honour to Ambrosini.
And the 32-year-old Ambrosini has expressed his delight at being appointed the club's next captain.
"I am really excited and proud," he said during a press conference on Monday.
"Paolo Maldini's inheritance is very important. I thank him for what he was to me and us all. I feel very lucky to hold the captain's armband of Milan.
"I've been here for 15 years, but there are persons who have been here for 2-3 years less than me and are Milanisti as much as I am.
"I think that it's normal that there should be a certain sharing with those team-mates who live in the squad with me for a long time. It's a form of respect, but it's also fair."
