Olympique Marseille owner Robert Louis-Dreyfus died after a long battle with leukemia on Saturday afternoon at the age of 63.

The Swiss-born millionaire businessman had suffered from leukemia for several years and his condition had worsened in recent months.

He took over at Marseille in 1996 and under his control the French giants reached two UEFA Cup finals.

"He was someone who loved Marseille, but unfortunately today he was swept away by his illness," Marseille assistant coach Guy Stéphan told iTele TV station.

"It's a great loss for Marseille."
