Olympique Marseille president Jean-Claude Dassier has confirmed his club are interested in luring veteran striker Fernando Morientes to the Stade Vélodrome.
The 33-year-old is available on a free transfer following his departure from Valencia last month and has been linked with a move to Marseille, where he would be reunited with Didier Deschamps.
The pair worked together at AS Monaco during the 2003/04 season when the ex-Real Madrid ace played a key role in their march to the Champions League final, where they were ultimately overcome by José Mourinho’s FC Porto.
"Morientes? We are really interested in him, Didier Deschamps wants him," Dassier told RMC.
"I have to do what the coach asks me, so it could happen very soon."
