Brazilian Ronaldo to play as himself in Iranian movie
Table of Contents
Brazilian soccer star Ronaldo will star as himself in an Iranian movie about a Palestine girl who was killed in a refugee camp before realising her dream of meeting him.
The film will be produced by Iranian directors Mansur Sohrabpour and Mohammad Latif, as a coordinated project with helps from the Brazil-Iran Chamber of Commerce.
Ronaldo's agent, Fabiano Farah, has confirmed to El Globo that his client has signed a pre-contract for the movie.
The 32-year-old will be with his club Corinthians in the Palestinian Territories - for a friendly against fellow Brazilians Fluminense - at the time that the film is set to be made in Lebanon.
Still without a title, the movie is based on the true story of Alneyrab, a 13-year-old girl who dreamed of meeting Ronaldo when he visited the Middle East on a humanitarian mission in 2005.
She was only able to watch the Phenomenon from a distance, and later was killed in a refugee camp in Southern Lebanon after losing a leg to an anti-personnel mine without ever meeting her idol.
Farrokh Faradji Chadan, President of the Brazil-Iran Chamber of Commerce, would not disclose how much Ronaldo will be paid for what he called a "humanitarian" production.
The two-time World Cup winner made a trip to Israel and the West Bank in 2005 as a U.N. Development Program goodwill ambassador on a campaign against poverty around the world.
