Argentine striker Mauro Zárate insists he is ready for an international call from the national team.
The 22-year-old has had an impressive season with Lazio this term, scoring 16 goals in all competitions.
He netted a superb goal in the Coppa Italia final against Sampdoria on Wednesday and believes he is ready to be included in Diego Maradona’s Argentina squad.
Zárate said in an interview with Diario Olè magazine: "I have always hoped to earn a call-up to the national side, but now I feel really confident about it.
"I have learned a lot during this one season in Italy so I hope that playing here will help my cause.
"Serie A is a very tough competition because the defenders are difficult to beat and every player is physically strong.
"I am now hoping that what I have achieved this season is enough to convince Maradona to give me a chance."
