Werder Bremen rallied to beat their hosts Hamburg 3-2 in the second leg of the UEFA Cup semi-final and went through on the away goals rule.
Starting the night 1-0 down against Hamburg, Bremen fell further behind when Ivica Olić received a prefect pass from Joris Mathijsen to chip the ball over the Tim Wiese on 12 minutes.
But Diego tied the game in the 29th minute when he linked up with Claudio Pizarro before dinking the ball past Frank Rost.
Diego then tangled with Hamburg defender Alex Silva and got an avoidable yellow card that rules him out of the final. Silva was also booked.
Pizarro stunned the hosts when he fired Bremen ahead with an outstanding long-range strike midway through the second half.
Bremen's third goal came after Hamburg defender Michael Gravgaard gave away an unnecessary corner as his back-pass bobbled up and went out for a corner thanks to a plastic cup on the pitch, and Frank Baumann headed in at the far post.
However, Hamburg wasn't finished. Jerome Boateng sent a long cross and Olić beat Clemens Fritz to the ball to score with a diving header.
Rost came off his line in the final few minutes as Hamburg tried in vain to notch the equaliser.
In the final in Istanbul on May 20, Bremen will play Shakhtar Donetsk, which edged Ukraine rivals Dynamo Kiev 2-1 to advance 3-2 on aggregate.
Ismael Bangoura's second-half strike for Kiev looked to have set the tie up for extra-time following Jadson's opener, but Brazilian winger Ilsinho popped up in the 88th minute to secure a famous victory.
