AC Milan will appoint Leonardo as their new coach next Monday, the day after their final Serie A match against Fiorentina.

A number of names have been linked with the hot seat, including those of former Rossoneri striker Marco van Basten, Cagliari coach Massimiliano Allegri and AS Roma boss Luciano Spalletti.

But, according to reports in Friday's La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Milan directors have decided on an internal solution and will call upon technical director Leonardo, who played for them for four years from 1997-2001.

The 40-year-old Leonardo has no previous coaching experience but Pep Guardiola has proved rookies can shine after winning an incredible treble in his season in charge of Barcelona.
