Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano admits he would relish a reunion with Manchester United striker Carlos Tévez at Anfield next season.

Mascherano and Tévez were both at Corinthians in Brazil before moving to West Ham together in August 2006.

"It would be great to have Carlos here with me, I know how good he is," Mascherano is quoted by PA Sport as saying.

"But I don't really know what the situation is, it is certainly a difficult one.

"I don't know exactly what is happening. The only thing I can say is that he is a great player and a great person."

Sir Alex Ferguson blocked Gabriel Heinze's desired move to Liverpool in 2007, with the Argentina defender instead leaving for Real Madrid.

But there is little the United boss could do about such a move once Tévez's loan is over.

Tévez has said he intends to stay in England and it is believed he does not want to move from his Cheshire home.
