Florentino Pérez announces Real Madrid candidature

Florentino Pérez officially announced that he is going to stand again as president of Real Madrid at the conference in the Hotel Ritz in Madrid.
Pérez, who made history by bringing together football heroes Zinedine Zidane, Luís Figo, Ronaldo, David Beckham and Michael Owen at the Bernabéu, said that he was persuaded to try and regain control after the club's image had been tarnished this season.
"I have not said anything throughout the season as I have not wanted to disturb things," he told the assembled media pack.
"But after the serious events that have occurred recently I have officially decided to announce my decision to stand at the Real Madrid elections.
"The sad events at the general assembly in December have left the club in a difficult position and what moved me to make the decision is the urgency required across the board to see us through these difficult times."
While others have yet to state whether they will challenge Pérez, he remains the strong favourite to win the elections on June 14.
Pérez won an election in 2000 and again four years later, but he resigned in 2006 as his Galactico plans saw the club go for three seasons without a trophy.
