Manchester United starlet Rafael da Silva has agreed a two-year contract extension with the Red Devils.

The 18-year-old Brazilian is now tied to the Premier League champions until 2013.

Rafael has made 24 appearances for United this season, scoring one goal, and manager Sir Alex Ferguson has spoken of his delight at tying down a player who in his debut Premier League campaign made the shortlist for the PFA Young Player of the Year.

Fergie told the club's official website, www.manutd.com: "Everyone at the club has been very impressed and excited by his first year as a professional.

"His enthusiasm and the adventurous way he plays is typical of a Manchester United player.

"We are delighted he has signed a new contract."

Rafael added: "It has been a fantastic first year and I have learned from all the players at the club.

"It has been an exciting time for me and I want to be part of this for a long time so to get an extension is unbelievable."
